Famous landmarks in Morocco

Atlantic landmarks, imperial city gates and earthen architecture.

Three Moroccan tower landmarks need three different city anchors. The Koutoubia Mosque belongs to Marrakesh, Hassan II Mosque to Casablanca and Hassan Tower to Rabat. When a crop shows only a tower, inspect the upper shape and then request the full photograph if you need the surrounding setting. The Atlantic backdrop is particularly useful when examining Hassan II Mosque.

Bab Mansour introduces a decorated gateway in Meknes, while Aït Benhaddou shows a compact group of earthen buildings near Ouarzazate. Compare a single formal entrance with the clustered walls and towers of an entire settlement. These five stops bring coast, city and inland landscape into the same collection without making one style stand in for all Moroccan architecture.

Locations: Marrakesh · Casablanca · Near Ouarzazate · Rabat · Meknes. The landmark cards below include exact coordinates.

Read the map

Separate Casablanca and Rabat on the Atlantic side from inland Marrakesh and Meknes. Place Aït Benhaddou near Ouarzazate, south of the High Atlas.

A small learning challenge

Make a three-column note for the tower landmarks: name, city, one visible difference. Add Bab Mansour and Aït Benhaddou as contrasting shapes.
