How to Play
Recognise a real landmark from a photograph, choose its location on a world map, then discover the story. A game has five different landmarks and up to 5,000 points.
A round, step by step
- Study the cropped photo. The name and country stay hidden.
- Zoom or drag the map. Tap or click to place your pin. You can move it before you submit.
- If needed, reveal the full photo or the continent. The score cost is shown before you use a hint.
- Select Confirm location. Moving the map never submits an answer.
- See the correct point, your distance, your score, and a short story. Open the guide in a new tab or continue to the next round.
Points and hints
Each round is worth up to 1,000 points. Within 25 km of the reference point you receive the full distance score. Further away, the score decreases gradually. The full-photo hint caps a perfect answer at 850 points; the continent hint caps it at 700.
| Distance | No hints | Full photo | Continent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–25 km | 1,000 | 850 | 700 |
| 200 km | 890 | 756 | 623 |
| 1,000 km | 522 | 444 | 365 |
| 3,000 km | 138 | 117 | 96 |
Rules v1: points = round(1,000 × exp(−max(0, distance − 25) / 1,500) × hint factor). Distance is the shortest great-circle distance in kilometres. There is no time penalty. A used hint cannot be undone.
Daily, practice, and friends
The daily series changes at 00:00 UTC, simultaneously worldwide. The series you start stays fixed if midnight arrives mid-game. Your first completed daily result on this device is recorded; replaying is practice and does not replace it.
Practice has three photo levels: Easy shows the full photo from the start, Normal starts with a detail, and Hard starts with a tighter detail. Easy’s full starting photo carries no hint penalty. The daily uses Normal. Friend links preserve the same five landmarks, photo level, bank version, and scoring rules; compare only games played at the same level.
Reference points and fair comparison
Large sites use a specific reference point matched to the photograph, such as the Badaling section of the Great Wall. Every monument guide explains its point. Scores and friend links are casual comparisons, saved locally and not verified by a server. There is no official global leaderboard.
Keyboard and missing images
You can pan the map with the arrow keys and use its zoom controls. The latitude and longitude fields provide another way to set a pin without clicking the map. If a photo cannot load, retry it; submitting that round stays disabled until the photo is ready.
