Great Wall at Badaling
Near Beijing · Ancient site
A Beijing cluster, a riverside Buddha and a palace in Lhasa.
Three entries share a Beijing-region anchor, but look very different. The Great Wall round uses the Badaling section, so place the pictured site near Beijing rather than somewhere along the entire wall. The Forbidden City gives you a palace complex with repeated courtyards and roofs. At the Temple of Heaven, the familiar round hall has a stacked circular roof outline.
The Leshan Giant Buddha takes the collection to Sichuan: the enormous seated figure is cut into a cliff rather than standing as a separate building. The Potala Palace leads to Lhasa, Tibet, with a broad red-and-white complex rising above its surroundings. Treat the three Beijing-area locations as one study group and Leshan and Lhasa as independent anchors on a much larger map.
