Where is Great Wall at Badaling?
Great Wall at Badaling is in Near Beijing, China, in Asia. The game uses the reference point shown below: 40.3540°, 116.0067°. A guess within 25 km earns the full distance score before any hint deduction.
The answer marker is the Badaling sector northwest of Beijing. It does not represent the entire Great Wall, whose many sectors extend across a vast area. Images must specifically identify Badaling.

The story behind the landmark
The Great Wall developed through many dynasties, combining walls, passes, fortresses and towers across northern China. UNESCO describes earlier defences joined under Qin Shi Huang and construction continuing through the Ming dynasty. Its enormous geographical extent means there is no single point that can stand for every photographed section.
Beijing's municipal account identifies Badaling as a Ming-period pass and an important barrier protecting the capital. It lies in Yanqing District, northwest of central Beijing. The sector's masonry routes follow steep terrain, so a photograph can show several apparently separate lines that are actually parts of the same local defensive landscape.
How to recognise it
- A crenellated masonry wall tracing steep mountain ridges
- Square defensive towers interrupting the wall at intervals
- Broad stepped walkways rising and falling with the terrain
Look twice: a useful comparison
Other Great Wall sectors, including Mutianyu and Jinshanling, can look very similar. The entry is explicitly Badaling. Architecture alone may not establish the sector from a tight crop, so the location label revealed after answering is an essential part of learning this particular round.
A detail worth remembering
The Great Wall is a defence system with many periods and places, rather than one continuous monument built at one time. A Badaling round introduces that distinction and gives the game a fair, specific reference location for calculating distance.
